Holland also known as the Netherlands is situated North of Belgium and west of Germany. They speak either Dutch or Frisian and the capital Amsterdam is a well known tourist attraction in Europe. Their national holiday is on 30th April for the queen's day. The population of the country is over 16.5 million with a growth rate of 0.4%.

History

Back in history the country we now know as Holland was very hit by a west coastline shift to the east moving land up to about 30 kilometers. On top of that the country experienced continues storms that broke through taking entire regions over a period of time. Main rivers flooded and this got to a point where many people were living in very unstable conditions and therefore by the 10th century there way attempt on draining the floods but got the wrong results. Instead of this being resolved it bought a new problem.

There was extreme soil shrinkage and the surface of land lowered by up to 15 metres. Therefore instead of the problem being resolved the problem got worse with even more storm floods and this time even more dangerous. Drastic action was taken and resulted in the rescue of the country. Water control boards were later formed to make sure flooding would stay at a low level and had legal power to enforce regulations on the management of water supply.  Hollanders didn't stop working towards resolving the floods problems and in the 16th century they started the process of saving all land by securing lakes and closing mudflats. This was over a large period of time right up until the 20th century. There is an on going struggle in Holland with mastering water control and supply and has certainly been ingrained into the Holland people.
